Blue's Duncan James Bares His Soul

Duncan from Blue gave us a call last week to chat about Blue's new studio album One Love. Well, it was supposed to be about that, but it soon turned into a candid discussion about girls, love and the most important thing in his life - his mum!

TVHITS.com.au: Hey Duncan, how are you guys going?

Duncan: I'm great thanks mate. Lee's not too good though - he's had a bit of a late night! He was going to come and talk to you but you're stuck with me now I'm afraid.

TVHITS.com.au: I'm not complaining mate! So, tell us a bit about the new album.

Duncan: The new album is quite different in a way. We've got a lot of tracks that are more edgier and a lot catchier. We've worked with a lot of different producers as well and we've come up with some great tracks. We've actually done a dance track would you believe? We did it with a guy called Rob Davis who worked with Kylie on Can't Get You Out Of My Head and also with Holly Valance.

TVHITS.com.au: Sounds cool! So, do you like Holly Valance?

Duncan: She's absolutely incredible! She's hot! She actually came to me and Si's (Simon from Blue's) birthday party this year and we just spent the whole night drooling over her. Has she still got her boyfriend?

TVHITS.com.au: Hahaha. Who knows? That's the subject of some debate over here at the moment.

Duncan: Really? I'll tell you why. I've got a bit of a feeling that she quite fancies one of the boys from Blue!

TVHITS.com.au: Really? Who?

Duncan: (sounding dissappointed) Not me. I wish it was me. It's the token black guy - Simon!

TVHITS.com.au: Is that what you call him?

Duncan: Yeh (laughing). He's our token black boy!

TVHITS.com.au: So she likes black guys maybe?

Duncan: Who knows... we've just noticed that she's always quite flirty with him.

TVHITS.com.au: I heard a rumour that she likes Craig David too!

Duncan: There you go (laughing) - she does like black guys!

TVHITS.com.au: I've noticed that the trend through boyband history has been that the youngest member of the group is usually the first to go solo (Michael Jackson, Nick Carter, Justin Timberlake). Do you think Lee will be your first and continue the trend?

Duncan: To be quite honest none of us are really thinking about solo stuff yet. We're only just about to release our second album. We're doing really well and we're having a lot of success. Thinking about going solo is the last thing on our minds. Even if some of us do go solo one day we will still remain mates. We'll definitely still remain friends. Blue isn't the be all and end all. We are all keen to spread our wings. I'm doing some TV presenting work over here and Simon is managing a new band called VS. He's gonna be the new Puff Daddy!

TVHITS.com.au: Who do you think will be the most successful solo artist out of Nick Carter and Justin Timberlake?

Duncan: You know, we've studied this. It always seems that just when bands are starting to go well people want to leave. They get people whispering in their ears telling them that they can do it alone. In reality very few people manage to make a career out of it and have greater success as a solo artist. Michael Jackson and Robbie Williams have done it but it's rare. Look at the Spice Girls. They split up and now none of them are doing particularly well. So when you look at Justin and Nick Carter you have to ask yourself 'will they be as successful by themselves as they were in their band?'. I personally don't think so.

TVHITS.com.au: Are you guys coming back to Australia soon?

Duncan: We're coming back at the beginning of next year actually. We love Australia. We were out there for Rumba! last year. We just had great fun. We fell in love with the place, especially Sydney.

TVHITS.com.au: Who got all the girls?

Duncan: Ahhh, we all got our share!

TVHITS.com.au: (teasing) But if Simon gets Holly you'll be devestated won't you?

Duncan: Haha. Yeh. If he manages to pull that one off then i'll have to take my hat off to him. I'll have to go one better and get Britney!

TVHITS.com.au: What's the best thing about being Duncan?

Duncan: Getting to be a part of this great band, getting to travel the world and being able to support my mum who i love dearly. It's nice that i can put her in a nice house and financially support her.

TVHITS.com.au: Ahhh, you're such a nice bloke!

Duncan: Oh well. Looking after her is probably the most important thing to me.

TVHITS.com.au: Thanks for talking to us mate. We'll chat soon.

Duncan: Nice speaking to you too buddy. See you soon. Say hi to everyone for me!
